About 11,000 immigrants became Austrian citizens in 2024 first half!

Recent data from Statistics Austria indicates that approximately 11,050 immigrants obtained Austrian citizenship during the first half of 2024, specifically between January and June. This figure represents a 66% increase in the number of naturalized citizens compared to the same timeframe in the previous year.

Of those who acquired Austrian citizenship, about 6,658 were temporary residents. The reports further detail that 3,244 individuals had resided in Austria for at least six years, while 8,256 were naturalized based on legal entitlement.

Among the residents of Austria, approximately 393 individuals gained citizenship through marriage, and around 261 naturalized citizens had been living in the country for over 15 years. Additionally, in the first half of 2024, around 2,189 individuals were granted citizenship based on extensions.

Austrian Citizenship for Foreign Immigrants:

In 2024, a significant number of foreign immigrants were granted Austrian citizenship, with the largest groups originating from Israel, Syria, the United States, the United Kingdom, and descendants of the Nazi regime. Notably, Syrians represented the highest proportion of foreign nationals who obtained citizenship in Austria during the first half of 2024.

Recent statistics indicate that approximately 48.6% of the newly naturalized citizens were women, with 33% of them being under the age of 18. Additionally, around 2267 individuals, or one-fifth of the foreign immigrants who gained citizenship, were born in Austria. Most newly naturalized citizens, totaling 1376, resided in Upper Austria, followed by Styria, Salzburg, Burgenland, and Vienna.
