Malaysia Fee Increase & Details.
The Expatriate Services Division of Malaysia’s Immigration Department has announced an increase in visa application fees. This adjustment impacts several significant visa categories, including the Employment Pass, Professional Visit Pass, Long Term Social Visit Pass, and Dependent Pass.
Fee adjustments by category are as follows:
- Employment Pass (EP): The application fee will rise from MYR 1,000 to MYR 2,000.
- Long-Term Social Visit Pass: The fee will increase from MYR 450 to MYR 500.
- Dependent Pass: The new fee will be MYR 500, an increase from MYR 450.
Overview of visa categories:
According to the report, the Employment Pass permits expatriates to work in Malaysia for a duration of up to 60 months, contingent upon their employment contract. Holders of this pass may apply for a Dependant Pass for their immediate family members, which includes spouses and children under the age of 18.
The Professional Visit Pass is intended for foreign professionals with appropriate qualifications who temporarily come to Malaysia to offer services or receive training from a Malaysian entity for a period of up to one year.
The Long Term Social Visit Pass is granted for stays of a minimum of six months, with the possibility of extensions. Foreign spouses of Malaysian citizens may obtain this pass for a duration of up to five years, provided they fulfill specific criteria and are allowed to engage in paid employment or business activities without needing to transition to an Employment Pass.
Improvements in processing times:
In conjunction with the fee increases, the Immigration Department has optimized its processes by reducing the application processing time from five working days to three for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Critical Sector companies, with the objective of accelerating decisions regarding expatriate applications.
