Passport-less immigration at Changi Airport.

As of 30 September 2024, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has fully adopted passport-less clearance across all four terminals at Changi Airport. Residents of Singapore arriving and departing can now clear immigration using only their facial and iris biometrics, eliminating the necessity to present their passports. Additionally, foreign visitors can also benefit from this passport-less clearance when departing from Singapore.

By 15 October 2024, nearly 1.5 million travelers have utilized the passport-less clearance initiative, allowing them to pass through immigration without presenting a passport. The complete implementation of this system at Changi Airport has resulted in a 60% reduction in average clearance time per traveler, decreasing from 25 seconds to just 10 seconds.

It is important to note that foreign visitors are still required to present their passports for immigration clearance upon their arrival in Singapore, although they can take advantage of passport-less clearance when leaving the country. All travelers are advised to carry their passports, as they may be necessary for immigration clearance at their destination countries, and the ICA may request to see the passport for verification purposes.
